YOUR WEBSITE SCORECARD: PART 3
This is the third in our weekly series of providing our years of insight into what works best to get your website ranked higher on Google. It begins with studying Google’s Quality Rater’s Guidelines…all 169 pages of them. This is the roadmap the Google computer scientists use in programming the search engine. Here’s installment 3 and another Scorecard example:
- AUTHORITY ENTITIES: Google judges your website like you judge people and other businesses by their associations or accomplishments. So, their search engine looks for these entities or markers.
- BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (BBB): The BBB is such an entity. It has a huge positive reputation. We know it’s not popular with many of you, and you don’t like paying its fees, but it does provide Authority for search engines like Google when they are ranking your site against others that are not members of the BBB.
- WHAT IS AUTHORITY? Google lays out Authority as one of its major ranking factors in its Guidelines mentioned above. A website demonstrating that the business has shown on its website various examples of Authority is a positive ranking factor.
- WHY IS AUTHORITY IMPORTANT? None of the search engines want to be fooled. None of the search engines want to provide a poor, bad or low-quality result, so they are looking for reasons to rank certain websites higher than others. Giving them examples of your authority on your website is crucial.
- OTHER EXAMPLES OF AUTHORITY: Logos of brands that you sell, approved by rating companies like American Automobile Association (AAA), Good Housekeeping, Michelin, Angi, Google Customer Reviews, Yelp, etc.
We hope you see the simple logic in this. You will probably think of many other authority entities that you can include on your site. Please do, and we’re sure your site will benefit from a higher ranking, which will provide you with more traffic which generally translates into more sales leads.
